In September 2009, I received my MBA online from the University of Phoenix. I completed the program within 18 months, completely through their online program. I will have to admit that in the beginning I was a bit nervous pursuing my degree online, but the staff and faculty assisted throughout the process.
The best part about attending class online is that you can make your own schedule, at times I was doing my papers in the middle of the night while on other times, I was doing them on during a vacation relaxing. As long as I had my laptop and an internet connection I was set. All of the courses I took, thirteen in total consisted of individual assignments and group projects.
For the most part the group assignments were great, while some were frustrating. There were a few incidents where a teammate dropped the course the day before an assignment and the team would have to scramble to put the paper together. I think that the group assignments are good as they teach the importance of working together for a goal. All the papers had to be done in APA format and some also consisted of Power Point Presentations. There were some instructors who were stricter on using the APA format, while others were more concerned with content. The feedback from the professors was very helpful and done in many ways.
Every course followed the same format - a student forum, a team forum, individual forum and a weekly question forum. Instructors were able to give feedback on any of these forums. One requirement was that you had to log in at least four times per week to get full weekly credit, as well as answer questions that were posted. Normally 3 questions were posted weekly and the discussions would explode from there. Classmates would respond individually to the question and then to each other. There was never a dull moment at UOP, and never any arguments.
The only drawback is the cost of attending University of Phoenix as I spent over $20,000 for the MBA program. I know that I could have completed the MBA program elsewhere for much less, but the convenience of the online learning worked well with my schedule.
However, I would like to mention that financial aid is available for online degree programs at UOP for those who qualify.
